LAKE COMO GETS A SMALL LUXURY HOTEL

Luxury hotels in Lake Como, Italy, tend to be large, but that changed this month with the opening of the nine-room Villa Làrio. Set on the shore in a 19th-century former residence of a noble Lombardy family, the property is meant to emulate the feeling of staying in a private home. It has an infinity pool with lake views, a small garden where massages can be arranged and a restaurant with 40 seats inside and another 40 outside. There is also a jetty on site with water sports like canoeing, skiing and kayaking and a landing pad nearby for seaplanes and helicopters. Rates from $390.
